• Cardiopulmonary Prevention Program

    The primary goal of the Prevention Program is to assist people with known heart and lung disease, or significant risk for heart disease in a comprehensive program of strengthening, conditioning and overall wellness.

    Requirements:

    • Share in the common goal of preventing or reducing the progression of heart and lung disease.
    • Possess a current diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease or two of the following controllable risk factors for heart disease:
      • High cholesterol (low HDL)
      • Hypertension
      • Obesity
      • Smoking (with a current plan to quit)
      • Diabetes
    • Complete a program application*.
    • Receive a signed release from physician.
    • Participate in an initial and annual prevention program assessment to maintain current membership status.
    * The cardiopulmonary rehabilitation staff reserves the right to limit applicants; participation is based on the above requirements and current medical status.

    Annual membership includes:

    Use of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center: Monday - Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.*

    * The cardiopulmonary rehabilitation staff has priority over the use of all exercise and weight equipment for all participants in monitored, supervised exercise classes.

    Exercise Assessment

    All participants must undergo an exercise assessment before beginning the program unless they have completed Phase II Cardiac Rehab, Phase III Cardiac Rehab, or Pulmonary Rehab within the past month. Prevention Program members who let their membership lapse for more than six months, must also undergo an exercise assessment before returning to the program. The assessment includes a heart rate and blood pressure monitored exercise session, cholesterol screening, body fat analysis, risk factor assessment and exercise prescription.

    Annual Exercise Assessment

    Following the first year of membership, each member will have a yearly exercise assessment at no additional cost. The assessment includes a heart rate and blood pressure monitored exercise session, cholesterol screening, body fat analysis, risk factor assessment and exercise prescription.

    Blood Pressure Monitoring

    Blood pressure measurements are available by the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation staff upon request.

    Participation in the Cardiac Rehabilitation or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Educational Sessions or other presentations for participants are open to Prevention members. See a member of the staff for a current education schedule.

    Library

    Books, videotapes and cassettes on heart and lung disease and the modification of risk factors for heart disease are available to members. Please ask a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation staff member to assist you in signing out educational material.

    Annual Membership Fee

    Memberships begin January 1st and end December 31st each year. Participants beginning the program after January 31st will receive a pro-rated fee for the remainder of the year. Fees are as follows:

    Former participants of Phase II, Phase III, or Pulmonary Rehab
    $300.00/year

    Applicants who have not completed Phase II, Phase III or Pulmonary Rehab
    $400.00/year
